If you follow the news it almost sounds like there are no jobs out there, but there are if you know where to look. One such place is in health care where shortages are common. This may be due to not enough people having the proper education to qualify for a position and also due to people retiring who currently work in the field.</p>
<p><span id="more-3"></span>There are multiple ways to become a registered nurse. A shorter way to become an RN is to complete either a nursing diploma program or an associate’s degree in nursing program. Both of these options can allow someone to become a registered nurse. Another option is to pursue a four year bachelor’s in nursing degree. Which one you choose will likely depend on your time frame and career goals.</p>
<p>If you need to start working sooner rather then later then the shorter diploma or associate degree option may be best. If you only have a goal to be a nurse and not go into management then this option may be a great choice. If you later decide to get a bachelors degree you can find many transition programs. A common one is an RN to BSN Online degree many nurses are completing.</p>
<p>If you have the time and know for sure you want more career opportunities then earning your BSN (four year) degree from the start may be a great idea for you. This will give you an opportunity to go into management and other career opportunities those with a lesser degree may not have.</p>
<p>Whatever choice you decide a key thing to do now is to compare all your options. This includes nursing schools and type of programs. Once that is done you can start applying for different schools.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that all the schools will have different requirements to be accepted into their programs. In many cases you to get accepted into a nursing school you will need to take and do well on the nursing entrance test (NET) or other test. To prepare for a test one would be wise to good nursing study guides to help them do well. So to start the new year of 2009 off to a great start, you would be wise to take the time now to gather some information to help you make a good career decision.</p>

There is the picture you hold in your mind of your first home.  There is the knowledge that New York is called the Big Apple.  There is the ability to ride a bike or knowing the face of the people you love.  And there is the telephone number you learned just five minutes ago.</p>
<p><span id="more-24"></span>Amazingly all of these processes depend upon memory.</p>
<p>When a person memorizes a phone number that they dial and promptly forget they are using working memory.  This type of memory is fragile and unless you commit the data to long-term memory the information is quickly gone.  Researchers believe that you have the ability to easily remember 7 bits of data quickly but more than that is difficult.  This is why you can remember the telephone number but need the credit card in front of you when you order online.</p>
<p>Long-term memory happens when you attach a new memory to another that has already been committed to memory.  For instance the cell phone number of your neighbor is ‘attached’ to the memory of the face of your neighbor.</p>
<p>There are ways to improve memory ability by using games.  One game to improve your memory is storytelling.  Storytelling is a way to remember the information you need committed to long-term memory.  The story connects the ideas and facts making them easier to recall.  It also a way to increase participation which increases memory – as opposed to the use of a laundry list of items.</p>
<p>For instance, when you are storytelling you make up images of what is happening.  This is also a very powerful technique to achieve your goals.  Set your goal, tell it in a story of your life and ‘see’ yourself in the story.  Use that story each day to commit this memory to long-term memory and increase the possibility that it will happen.</p>
<p>This can be a fun game to improve your memory when done with a group.  Practice by laying out a group of items on the table and try to remember them.  Each member takes a turn adding the object to the story.  Once the objects are included in the story the objects are taken away and everyone sees who can remember the most objects.</p>
<p>Go Fish is another game to improve your memory that is fun to play alone or with friends.  Use a standard deck of playing cards and remove 2 of the 4 suits.  Leave yourself with 2 of each number and picture card.  Now, with the 24 cards (making sure all have a match), place them face down on the floor or table.  Move them around so you don’t know where each is located.  One at a time pick up a card and then another trying to find the match.  If there is no match put them back where they were and try again.  This helps to improve your short-term memory.  Time yourself to see how much faster you can do it each time.</p>
<p>Another inexpensive game to improve your memory is using a puzzle – but put it together without referring back to the picture on the box.  Look at the picture first, giving yourself a couple of minutes; mix up the pieces and work on putting them back together.</p>
<p>In March 2007 Reuters news bureau reported that using computer games that are designed to help memory and cognitive function may be better than classic games at delaying age-related mental decline. There is a new group of games designed for older adults from Nintendo and Mattel, based on studies that show older people can improve their brains.</p>
<p>In a study at the University of California researchers studied 45 patients who had diagnosed mild cognitive impairment using either the Posit Science Brain Fitness program by Mattel or comparable computer-based tasks.  The group using the Posit program had a significant improvement in visual spatial memory and a trend toward short-term and long-term memory improvement.</p>
<p>More research is showing that our cognitive abilities are not stagnant and that like a muscle if we don’t use it we lose it.  Exercise your brain power and play some games to improve your memory!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It seems that increasingly, people are looking for ways to decrease stress. They’re searching for whatever it is they believe will give them that relief – a relaxation CD, exercise, or even a magic pill! This post is about giving you a simpler approach to relieving stress.</p>
<p>What they need to understand is that sometimes the answer is to look inside yourself, and that’s not necessarily as scary as you think it might be.</p>
<p><span id="more-22"></span>Something I noticed after years of working with people who needed help with stress relief, was that one specific cause stood out among the myriads. It’s what I call ‘The Gap’, that is, the difference between where they thought things should be and where they were.</p>
<p>I’ll try to make this a little clearer by describing a comment made by my girlfriend a few years back:</p>
<p>At the time I was feeling somewhat unhappy with my life and continually seeking more. Until, that is, she drew my attention to what I already had &#8211; a very pleasant home in the UK, directly opposite an attractive park, and woods through which I could access the Peak District – and as someone who loves to travel the world, I rate areas of the Peak District among the most beautiful places on this planet.</p>
<p>She added that not only did I have all this but, because of the work I did, I had the freedom to enjoy it, almost whenever I wanted! If the sun was shining, and I didn’t have a client for an hour or two, I could take my wonderful dog for a beautiful and relaxing walk in nature. It was and is, the kind of lifestyle that many people desired, she said.</p>
<p>This made me realize that I’d achieved much of what I wanted from life, I’d already got what I wanted, and this change of thinking immediately removed a whole layer of stress from me.</p>
<p>So now, another example where thinking things should be different created stress.</p>
<p>I used to have a business a few years ago which I felt should have progressed further than it had, made more profit than it did and been easier to run than it was. I’d read numerous stories of people who’d achieved ‘overnight success’ so I felt completely dejected that I couldn’t seem to do the same. (I now realize these are very isolated instances.)</p>
<p>I turned to a good and trusted friend of mine who had expertise in this area, and asked him to review my business. He did so and told me that actually it was rather good and doing better than most at this stage! So my idea of what things should have been like was a false idea I’d constructed that clouded the reality that things were okay.</p>
<p>If you recognize this trait in yourself, you could benefit from considering the following:<br />
a.    where you think your work/life/relationships are now (whichever is relevant)<br />
b.    where you think they should be</p>
<p>Then if you feel that these things should be different, do a reality check by asking yourself:<br />
a.    what is the reality?<br />
b.    am I sure that things need to change or is it merely my assumption?</p>
<p>It’s important to gather factual information about your situation and to pay real attention to what you have got so that you can re-assess if necessary, but also acknowledge if you have currently, at least partly, what you want.</p>
<p>Of course, your core values and passions have lead you to the point you’re at now and it’s important to recognize that even though, as a separate issue, you may want to change some of them.</p>
<p>So, the stress gap that I was made aware of years ago is now something I use with many clients. I use ‘mindfulness’ – helping them to pay attention to the here and now and the thoughts that are drifting through their minds. This technique alone is very powerful in enabling them to get back in touch with themselves, their purpose and passions, and to recognize their achievements in life to date.</p>

Will it matter to him if the parent disciplines him or not? Some believe that too much disciplining will create a person who will have so many hang-ups later in life, needing a therapist to function normally, and, thus, would impose little discipline. For others, they think that very little disciplining can lead to a person who knows no boundaries, posing a danger to society, and would tend to be very strict. This article will talk about disciplining a child, why it is important, and some tips on effective discipline.</p>
<p><span id="more-26"></span>What is discipline?</p>
<p>A lot of people equate discipline to punishment. When they hear of the word &#8220;discipline&#8221;, they think of spankings, time outs, grounding, and other actions penalizing wrongdoing. Yet, one must remember that the word &#8220;discipline&#8221; has the same root word as that of &#8220;disciple&#8221;. Both came from a Latin word meaning &#8220;pupil&#8221;. Thus, discipline really means to teach or to guide. Punishment may be a form of disciplining, but not the only one.</p>
<p>What are the effects of discipline?</p>
<p>Let us take the game of baseball. Supposing there are no rules in playing the game. There are no strike zones, no outs, or no way to keep scores. How fun will that be? The rules are imposed not to stifle the players but to make the game more enjoyable. Without the rules, players may not even have the motivation to hone their skills.</p>
<p>This is also true with discipline. By imposing rules and boundaries according to the child&#8217;s age, he can develop self-discipline, helping the child to grow up happy and well adjusted.</p>
<p>Some tips on effective discipline.</p>
<p>1. Rules must be clear to the child.</p>
<p>Going back to our example of the game of baseball, what if the batter does not understand why a certain pitch is called a ball, while another is called a strike. Without this understanding, the batter will swing his bat with every pitch, even if the ball is way above his head.</p>
<p>Rules that are vague to a child will only lead to frustration. Talk with your child when putting limits. Be sure that your child understands what is expected of him when a situation occurs.</p>
<p>2. Be consistent.</p>
<p>What if the distance between the first base and the home plate is varied every time a batter comes up to the plate? Worse, what if the base is moved while the player is running towards it?</p>
<p>By being consistent, a child learns that certain actions will result in a predictable consequence. The child will learn self-discipline, for he will know what actions to take, or not take, if he wants to have, or avoid, a certain outcome.</p>
<p>3. Provide positive feedback.</p>
<p>Actions that are rewarded get repeated. Unfortunately, there are some children who think that being noticed by a busy parent is a form of reward. The child may behave badly, even risking punishment, just to get the attention of his parent. Therefore, be sure to reward good behavior. A simple &#8220;thank you&#8221;, a kiss, or even a little smile may be enough feedback.</p>
<p>Remember, to discipline your child is to teach him how to grow up happy and secure. He will not see your disciplining as punishment; rather, he will look at it as a sign of love.</p>
